ZAGREB, May 21 (Hina) - The official results of yesterday's local
elections for the Zagreb City Council came in from the General
Electoral Commission today afternoon.
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) received the most votes, with
27.07 percent or 73,560 votes; followed by the Croatian Democratic
Union/Croatian Christian Democratic Union/Croatian Party of
Rights (HDZ-HKDU-HSP) coalition which won 19.91 percent, or 54,100
votes.
The Croatian People's Party (HNS) follows with 17.54 percent and
47,667 votes, and the Miroslav Tudjman independent list with 7.64
percent or 20,761 votes.
Out of the total of 694,586 voters in Zagreb, 276,359 voters came to
the polls Sunday, making up 39.79 percent. A total of 4,550 invalid
ballots were counted, or 1.65 percent.
The four leading lists will take part in the constitution of the
Zagreb City Assembly, with the SDP having won 20 seats, the HDZ-
HKDU-HSP coalition 14 seats, the HNS 12 and the Miroslav Tudjman
independent list five seats. The remaining 25 lists did not pass the
threshold.
Complaints may be submitted within the next 48 hours, to the State
Electoral Commission, the General Electoral Commission chairman,
Miroslav Sumanovic, said, stressing there have been no indications
of complaints yet."
