ZAGREB, May 9 (Hina) - The Office of the Croatian President issued a statement on Wednesday expressing surprise with the statement of Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS) leader Drazen Budisa "that the services of the Ministry of
Defence carried out their duties timely and in line with their legal obligations in the case of the incident in the Dracevac barracks and are not responsible for what happened there." "If we leave aside the obvious fact that the Defence Ministry and its services are very much responsible for what goes on in any barracks, we wonder how Budisa, who does not hold any state office, got hold of such detailed information on the activities of services in one of the key ministries," reads the statement. ZAGREB, May 9 (Hina) - The Office of the Croatian President issued a
statement on Wednesday expressing surprise with the statement of
Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS) leader Drazen Budisa "that the
services of the Ministry of Defence carried out their duties timely
and in line with their legal obligations in the case of the incident
in the Dracevac barracks and are not responsible for what happened
there."
"If we leave aside the obvious fact that the Defence Ministry and
its services are very much responsible for what goes on in any
barracks, we wonder how Budisa, who does not hold any state office,
got hold of such detailed information on the activities of services
in one of the key ministries," reads the statement.
In response to Budisa's statement that the Security and
Intelligence Service (SIS) had cautioned Mesic and his associates
about what could happen in Split last weekend, when President Mesic
was exposed to insults in the Dracevac barracks, the President's
Office said "the President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of
the Armed Forces did not, ahead of his visit to Split, receive any
information whatsoever from the SIS" and that the military
counterintelligence (SIS) had been consistently avoiding sending
reports to the President and Supreme Commander.
Both Prime Minister Ivica Racan and Defence Minister Jozo Rados
have been informed of this, the statement read.
With this statement the President's Office indirectly disclaimed
responsibility for the incident in the Split barracks.
