RIJEKA, May 8 (Hina) - The Primorje-Gorski Kotar County police have severed one of the biggest and best organised people smuggling chains and arrested two Croatian and one Romanian nationals suspected of running the smuggling chain
worth more than one million German marks. Two residents of Rijeka were taken to an investigating judge in Rijeka on Tuesday on suspicion of having smuggled some 1,500 Romanian nationals across the Croatian-Slovene border in cooperation with three Romanian nationals in the last year and a half, Rijeka police officials told reporters today. One of the three Romanian smugglers has been arrested and the other two are at large. The police will issue arrest warrants for them. The two smugglers from Rijeka will be charged with the illegal transfer of people across the state border and conspiracy to commit criminal acts as well as with forging official stamps and tapping police phones.
