During the ten years of trying to redress a wrong and give the square
its original name, each year the day of Europe and victory over
fascism was marked in the square. Each year, speakers called for the
respect of fundamental human values and civilisation standards,
because this could prevent the spreading of intolerance, the
language of hatred, chauvinism and xenophobia, president of the
committee Zoran Pusic said.
Members of the committee commented on recent rallies at which the
Croatian President, Prime Minister and other officials were booed
and insulted. In this difficult social situation it is easy to
manipulate public discontent, member of the committee Ivan Siber
said. He added the problems should be solved with dialogue and
tolerance, and not by spreading hatred, intolerance and
xenophobia.
Members of the committee said they did not expect conflicts with
extremist groups at tomorrow's rally and invited citizens who wish
to give their voice to the establishment of democracy and rule-of-
law to attend the rally.
