'NAMA' WORKERS STAGE PROTEST RALLY IN FRONT OF GOVT BUILDING

ZAGREB, April 26 (Hina) - About 50 workers of Croatia's chain of stores "Nama" gathered in front of the government building in Zagreb's St. Mark's Square on Thursday morning to protest against the situation in their company. "Nama" employees demand that the company's former workers be given severance pays and that other workers be enabled to work in normal conditions. Two weeks ago, the workers staged a protest for the same reason, claiming the government was responsible for the company's bankruptcy. Union leader Mario Ivekovic said that should the protesters fail to meet government officials, they would demand a meeting with party benches in parliament, which are currently in session in the parliament building on the opposite side of the square. "Nama" workers should be joined by workers of the "Adriachen" company from Kastel Sucurac who demand a meeting with Vice Premier Slavko Linic to inform him about

The state union of Croatian Post and Telecommunications (HPT) workers is also expected to stage a rally in St. Mark's Square today. The union, which has already organised several half-an-hour stoppages in post offices, protests against frequent robberies of post offices and demands better security conditions for its workers. At a protest rally two weeks ago the union requested the replacement of the Croatian Post management accusing it of being unable to improve security conditions. (hina) rml
