"During Easter holidays we deeply live our religious and family
union. Holidays always have a dimension of spiritual rest from
everyday efforts and an encouragement for future endeavours. After
the difficult years of war and reconstruction of the country, we
need new confidence and encouragement to promote peace, progress,
social justice and solidarity. During his second visit to Croatia,
John Paul II encouraged us with the words: "No one should be
discouraged by the remaining problems." At the same time, we are
equally aware of the strength and truth of his words "nothing great
can be built without sacrifice."
A better, happier future which we want to build demands a clearly
defined goal as well as courage, joint efforts and the selflessness
of all. I particularly want to emphasise the need for us all to
contribute more to our joint effort toward greater respect for
human life and dignity of all as well as toward the much needed
solidarity and care for those deprived of their rights and
opportunity to participate in the building of their personal and
our common future.
In that spirit and with that faith, I wish all Christian believers a
happy Easter!," reads Mesic's message.
Prime Minister Ivica Racan on Friday forwarded Easter messages to
Zagreb Archbishop Josip Bozanic and the head of the Serb Orthodox
community in the Zagreb-Ljubljana diocese and Italy, Metropolitan
Jovan.
