EU ENVOY OPENS RECONSTRUCTED KINDERGARTEN NEAR PAKRAC

BJELOVAR, April 2 (Hina) - European Union's envoy to Croatia, Per Vinther, opened a newly-reconstructed kindergarten in Prekopakra near Pakrac, east of Zagreb, on Monday. The daycare centre, destroyed in the war, was reconstructed with the help of the EU's Arbeiter Samariter Bund (ASB) office, which secured EUR 90,000 and the British Embassy's international development department, which gave another 10,000 pounds for the purchase of furniture, the installation of central heating and the kitchen. Attending the opening ceremony, along with Vinther, were British Ambassador Nicholas Jarrold, Romanian Ambassador Constantin Ghirda, Pozega-Slavonija County leaders and Pakrac municipal officials. Vinther and Pakrac mayor Damir Spancic signed a third, EUR 800,000- worth agreement on the continuation of the EU EUPOP programme, which is aimed at reviving economy in the country's war-ravaged areas. The largest part of the money will be used for the construction of the Pakrac town market. The ambassadors also visited Brezine near Lipik, where they attended the opening of a mill owned by a local resident. The ASB office helped in the construction of the mill with 70,000 DEM. (hina) rml
