PARTY MEMBER: MILOSEVIC REQUESTS RESPECT FOR LEGAL PROCEDURE

BELGRADE, March 31 (Hina) - A Serbian Socialist Party (SPS) deputy in the Yugoslav parliament, Gorica Gajevic, said on Saturday the former Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic, who also heads the SPS, is ready to accept an order for a court hearing on condition "the legal procedure is respected." Gajevic, a former party secretary-general, relayed that she had heard at today's party leadership meeting Milosevic being quoted as saying attempts to arrest him, like the last night's, left him no possibility to surrender to the police alive. Gajevic confirmed that talks on resolving the current crisis were underway and that the SPS and the country's ruling coalition had established contacts, but she did not comment on the details of the talks. She added it was most important to "prevent any blood-shed." Speaking at a pre-election rally in the Montenegrin capital of Podgorica today, Montenegrin President Milo Djuk

Speaking at a pre-election rally in the Montenegrin capital of Podgorica today, Montenegrin President Milo Djukanovic said the attempt to arrest the former Yugoslav president was a "proof of the political and moral breakdown of the man who deserves to be arrested." Djukanovic said the latest developments were a blow to retrograde forces in Montenegro. (hina) rml
