Gudelj, who was accused of Reihl-Kir's assassination and convicted in absentia, said a Constitutional Court judge, Vesna Omejec, today. The pardon was granted on Gudelj by applying the General Amnesty Act, under the Supreme Court's ruling. "The case is transferred back to the Supreme Court to reconsider it," Omejec told a news conference. "I am satisfied with the decision which shows that the wheels of justice grind slowly," the wife, Jadranka Reihl Kir, said adding that it also showed that there was justice. On 1 July 1991 Antun Gudelj, a reserve policeman, killed Josip
Reihl-Kir, the then police superintendent of the eastern city of
Osijek, and another two persons and injured the fourth person in a
car while they were driving towards the village of Tenja (outside
Osijek) to hold negotiations with rebel Serbs on the removal of
roadblocks and normalisation of relations.
