ZAGREB, Feb 19 (Hina) - A union of mine removal experts went on strike on Monday due to the refusal of their employers to grant them wages in the amount of three average wages in Croatia. According to the union leader Drazen Kis, 85
of 286 union members have been on strike since 8 am today, and mine removal has stopped at 95 sites. Not participating in the strike are only some private companies with some 20 employees, Kis told reporters. The strike will be discontinued only if the employers set the wages of mine removal experts at some 10,000 kuna, sign a collective agreement by the end of February and pay the strikers for the time spent on strike. Any prolongation of the strike would threaten the implementation of the national demining programme, the unionists said calling on the government to mediate in the dispute.(hina) rml
