RIJEKA, Feb 9 (Hina) - Tomislav Sabljak, court-appointed attorney for retired general Mirko Norac, for whom the police issued an arrest warrant and a court ruled month-long detention due to suspicion of his involvement in war crimes
against civilians, appealed against the detention ruling with the Rijeka County Court on Friday. Sabljar holds the measure of detention unnecessary as well as that it is aimed at humiliating the suspect given that suspects are taken before the court handcuffed. I believe that general Norac, should he be guaranteed a civilised procedure and release on bail, would turn himself in, Sabljar said. Asked whether he had contacted his client, Sabljar answered in the negative.(hina) rml
