ECONOMY MINISTER MEETS INCOMING US AMBASSADOR

ZAGREB, Jan 26 (Hina) - Croatian Economy Minister Goranko Fizulic on Friday held talks with the incoming US Ambassador to Croatia, Lawrence Rossin, announcing the presentation of Croatia's economy in New York for February. Ambassador Rossin announced a conference on investments in Croatia, which should be held in Zagreb in April. Fizulic informed Rossin about the presentation of the Croatian economy, an event to be held in New York on February 12 for representatives of US funds trading in stocks and shares, the Economy Ministry said in a statement. The presentation will focus on privatisation in the sector of telecommunications and power industry, to be carried out this year, the Ministry said. The US ambassador announced a conference on investment possibilities in Croatia, to be organised by the US Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) in Zagreb in April. Rossin expressed belief the organisation would attract numerous US business people, potential investors, to see and hear for themselves about Croatia's great potential, the statement read. Speaking about the continuation of the privatisation of the Croatian Telekom (HT), Fizulic said international bids should be invited for another package of HT shares and the new strategic partner should improve the quality of telecommunication services, as well as the Internet technology in the country. The two officials also discussed the cooperation between the Economy Ministry and the US Agency for International Development which began in 2000 in the sector of power production. Fizulic suggested that similar cooperation be initiated in the area of the telecommunications sector, reads the statement. (hina) rml
