PRESIDENT MESIC TO ATTEND ECONOMIC FORUM IN DAVOS

ZAGREB, Jan 26 (Hina) - An economic forum in Davos will be an opportunity for bilateral talks on political and state level, but also for contacts of economic interests for Croatia, Croatian President Stipe Mesic said Friday ahead of his leaving to Davos. I expect many bilateral talks with senior officials of world's biggest companies. But most of all I expect to hold talks on possibilities for the use of the Brijuni national park for the highest class of tourism, the Croatian President said. Asked about a possible meeting with Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica, Mesic said the meeting could take place in the Swiss ski resort. "Apart from meetings with several state officials and businessmen, I will most probably hold talks with Kostunica", Mesic said and added that during the talks with the Yugoslav President they would most certainly discuss The Hague. "Serbia must do what we did. It has got to prosecute crimes, it has to give European standards to national minorities, and as far as the economy goes, we can cooperate. However, Serbia must cooperate with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, extradite all war criminals, because then the guilt will be individualised and there will be room for cooperation", the Croatian President stressed. When asked about a further development of contacts and relations with the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Mesic said that once the guilt was individualised, there would be room for cooperation, particularly because Croatia and Yugoslavia had compatible economies. Sources close to the President's Office reported that Croatia did not initiate the meeting with Kostunica, and that the initiative came from the Yugoslav party. The same sources said the Croatian President was ready for the meeting. The Croatian delegation in Davos, headed by President Mesic, also includes European Integration Minister Ivan Jakovcic, and President's advisor for foreign policy Tomislav Jakic. The Croatian delegation will be visiting Davos until January 28. (hina) it
