ZAGREB, Jan 15 (Hina) - The international war crimes tribunal
prosecution will withdraw a summons for talks extended to Croatian
Armed Forces Chief-of-Staff General Petar Stipetic, Croatian Prime
Minister Ivica Racan and the tribunal's chief prosecutor Carla del
Ponte said. #L#
Following talks which lasted two hours longer than was envisaged,
del Ponte and Racan addressed reporters Monday night.
"The Hague prosecution will withdraw its request for the talks, and
will leave the decision up to General Stipetic," Racan said, adding
Stipetic did express wish for the talks to take place.
Stipetic received a summons from the Hague-based International
Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) last month for
talks with the tribunal's investigators. The summons was the
subject of controversy in the Croatian public during the past
several weeks because it was unclear whether Stipetic was called to
The Hague as a suspect or a witness.
