MPS COMPLAIN OVER FALSE IMPRESSION ABOUT THEIR TOO HIGH SALARIES

ZAGREB, Jan 24 (Hina) - The upper house of the Croatian national parliament on Wednesday bound the government to draw up an analysis of salaries of state officials, officials in units of local self-government and employees in public companies, and proposed measures for the settlement of the situation in this regard. A debate on MPs' salaries was launched by Anika Babic of the Liberal Party, who warned that this issue was again very interesting for the general public. She told the House of Counties that the public was not sufficiently informed that many state officials had substantially higher wages than deputies to the Sabor. In addition, there are claims that MPs are over-paid, Babic said. Her stand was accepted by representatives of other parties, who complained that owing to the false impression about their income, they "blush with shame while walking in streets."(hina) ms
