FLACHAU, Jan 14 (Hina) - Croatia's best skier, Janica Kostelic, won
the World Cup slalom in Flachau, Austria, on Sunday.#L#
It is the sixth consecutive victory in slalom this season for
Kostelic, who turned 19 last weekend. The results are greater in
view of the fact that she came back into th competition after she
sustained a grave knee injure in the downhill training race in St.
Moritz in December 1999.
Croatia's best athlete posted 1:35.94 in Flachau. She thus also won
the only combined event of this season which adds slalom times to
the times in yesterday's downhill in nearby Haus im Ennstal when
Kostelic finished 27th.
Therefore Kostelic, with maximum 200 points from the combined
event, retakes the lead in the overall standings of the World Cup,
from Renate Goetschl of Austria, who was 20th in today's slalom.
France's Laurea Pequegnot and Austria's Karin Koellerer tied for
the second place with 1:37.50 (or 1.56-second-lag behind
Kostelic).
