MARIBOR WORLD CUP SLALOM, MESIC'S VISIT CALLED OFF MARIBOR, Jan 7 (Hina) - A women's World Cup slalom, which was to take place at Pohorje near Maribor in Slovenia on Sunday, has been called off due to rain and extremely high
temperatures (14 degrees Celsius), organisers said. The visit of Croatian President Stipe Mesic, who was to attend the race with Croatia's best skier Janica Kostelic participating, has been cancelled as well, an official of the Slovene state protocol said. During his visit to Maribor, Mesic was to hold unofficial talks with Slovene President Milan Kucan. The participation of Kostelic, who was favoured to win the race, aroused great interest of Croatian sport fans, who had set out toward Maribor aboard trains and buses in large numbers this morning.(hina) rml
