SPLIT, Jan 6 (Hina) - The three crew members who lost their lives in
Friday's tragedy, when a Croatian ship overturned 30 miles off
Ancona, are the ship's captain Petar Jasic, steersman Dusko
Vukovic, and seaman Marko Mijatovic.
One member, Geni Vukovic, who saved himself by swimming for two
hours until he reached an oil platform, was hospitalised in Ancona
yesterday, and returned to Split this morning.
According to the latest official information, the search for the
fifth member - engine manager Sinisa Madunic - is continuing.
This was said at a news conference which Croatian Transport and
Maritime Affairs Minister Alojz Tusek and Mario Babic, the head of a
commission set up to establish the causes and circumstances of the
accident, held on Saturday afternoon in Split.
Babic told reporters the survivor Geni Vukovic had given his
statement to the commission immediately upon his arrival in Split
on Saturday morning, but the commission's head declined to say what
Vukovic had told them.
According to a report the Italian coast guard issued at 11:00 am
Saturday, the wrecked ship 'Nautika 64' was still floating and two
Italian vessels were near it to control the situation.
Negotiations are underway between the ship's owner and the Split-
based "Brodospas" on possibilities of towing the ship from the
accident site.
According to Babic, there is a great possibility that the fifth
missing member of the crew, Madunic, is still inside the ship, which
makes the chances that he be rescued slimmer.
On Saturday the commission also interviewed Ivica Mladineo, who is
in charge of management on behalf of the ship's owner, and Tonci
Drpic, who loaded the 155-ton-heavy cargo on the ship in Pucisca on
the island of Brac.
Minister Tusek declined to answer reporters' questions saying that
it was still not the time to speak of details of the tragedy while an
investigation was under way.
