WASHINGTON, Jan 5 (Hina) - The United States hopes that the Yugoslav government will work constructively toward resolving the question of succession to the former Yugoslav federation and that Zagreb and Belgrade will soon resume talks
on Prevlaka, a special US envoy for the Balkans, James O'Brien, said on Friday. Addressing reporters after talks with Yugoslav Foreign Minister Goran Svilanovic, O'Brien said the United States expected talks on succession to resume and be completed soon. It is important that the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia has recognised that it is only one of equal successor-states to the former federation, he stressed. This is a starting point which enables speedy and successful continuation and completion of the talks, he added. US diplomatic circles are equally optimistic as regards the question of Prevlaka, Croatia's southern-most peninsula bordering with the Yugoslav republic of Montenegro

Addressing reporters after talks with Yugoslav Foreign Minister
Goran Svilanovic, O'Brien said the United States expected talks on

It is important that the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia has
recognised that it is only one of equal successor-states to the

enables speedy and successful continuation and completion of the
talks, he added.
US diplomatic circles are equally optimistic as regards the
question of Prevlaka, Croatia's southern-most peninsula bordering
with the Yugoslav republic of Montenegro. O'Brien said he and
Svilanovic had discussed Prevlaka briefly as there was no
difference in the stands of Belgrade and Washington that the issue
should be resolved very soon.
