to all citizens of Croatia for the New Year 2001. Reading his message on national television, Mesic said Croatia must enter the third millennium and the year 2001 with clearly defined ambitions -- to become a truly democratic and law-based state of equal citizens, notwithstanding their national, religious or political affiliation. Only such a Croatia has a chance of achieving its long-term strategic goal -- accession into Euro-Atlantic associations and the European Union.
