KONFIN, Dec 10 (Hina) - A protocol on a temporary regime on Prevlaka, signed by Croatian and Yugoslav foreign ministers Tonino Picula and Goran Svilanovic on Tuesday, will regulate the two countries' relations along the southern
border until a permanent agreement is reached.

The protocol temporary regulates the two countries' relations
regarding border crossings, border regime and demilitarisation and
mine removal, the police and customs jurisdiction, as well as other
issues important for transit and the life of people in the region
the document refers to.
Prior to the signing, the two countries have on several occasions
stressed that the protocol did not prejudge the demarcation between
the two countries.
The signatories to the protocol agree for Croatia to temporarily
have jurisdiction over the land south-west of Konfin, while
Yugoslavia whould have jurisdiction over the land north of Konfin.
Croatia will complete full demilitarisation five kilometres from
its border, while Yugoslavia will demilitarise the area three
kilometres from Konfin.
The protocol regulates a sea area which will be under the
jurisdiction of a joint police crew.
Yugoslavia said its war ships in the area will not perform military
manoeuvres, demonstrate force, stop or anchor in the region. Its
submarines in the region will navigate on the surface.
Croatia and Yugoslavia will continue to intensify cooperation in
mine removal in the region, as stipulated by the protocol.
The protocol also enables the locals to cross the border with a
border pass.
The Protocol on the temporary regime has become effective since its
signing.
