ZAGREB, Dec 1 (Hina) - A trade union leader on Sunday refuted a
statement given yesterday by a deputy member of Croatia Bus'
management board to the effect that an ongoing workers' protest was
orchestrated by a third party which wanted the transport company to
go bankrupt. #L#
About 40 of the company's 390 workers on November 5 blockaded
Croatia Bus, demanding the replacement of the current and
appointment of a new board which would manage the company until
court proceedings against former director Leon Sulic on charges of
embezzlement are over.
Speaking to reporters today, New Trade Union president Mario
Ivekovic refuted yesterday's claim by Trpimir Sulic that the
company was losing between 80,000 and 90,000 kuna daily because of
the protest as entirely untrue.
Ivekovic said a lawsuit would be filed against Trpimir Sulic next
week. He announced the New Trade Union would request that Croatia
Bus' workers become small shareholders in bids to dispute the Sulic
family's ownership of the company.
Ivekovic also dismissed claims by some workers who corroborated
Sulic's claims that workers willingly borrowed money to unfreeze
the company's account. Ivekovic said such claims were absurd and
that he possessed information indicating that in that instance
workers were threatened with being sacked.
