Mass was said for missing and killed camp inmates by Vukovar parish
priest Slavko Antunovic, a former inmate of the "Velepromet" camp.
The prison camp was opened in mid-September 1991, shortly after the
start of a three-month siege of Vukovar. After the Serbian forces
entered the town, around 10,000 Croatian soldiers and civilians,
including children, were taken to the camp. A total of 1,200 inmates
are held missing.
The camp, closed in March 1992, was one of many camps the Serb forces
set up in Croatia, Yugoslavia and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
According to the Croatian Association of Former Serb Concentration
Camp Inmates, around 10,000 Croatian soldiers and civilians were
imprisoned in the camps and 30-40% of them did not survive the
torture they were subjected to.
