ZAGREB, Nov 19 (Hina) - Retired Admiral Davor Domazet arrived at
ICTY's Zagreb office on Tuesday morning to give a statement, as a
suspect, about events in operations Medak Pocket, Flash, and Storm,
and his role in them. #L#
Admiral Domazet arrived at the office of the International Criminal
Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) accompanied by his
attorney Branko Seric.
Domazet is to be interviewed in his capacity as head of the Croatian
army's intelligence in the 1991-7 period.
The admiral will be interviewed in the presence of his attorney. The
head of the government's office for cooperation with the ICTY,
Orsat Miljenic, will follow the interview on a screen in an
adjoining room.
The interview might last three days, it has been announced.
Seric told Hina over the telephone ahead of the interview the fact
that the ICTY had called Domazet to speak in his capacity as head of
the military intelligence might indicate the UN Tribunal was aware
the admiral had not had direct command over Croatian troops.
The highest ranked Croatian officer to have been interviewed by
ICTY investigators as a suspect was the military chief-of-staff,
General Petar Stipetic.
Stipetic was questioned in March 2001, also in connection with the
Medak Pocket, Flash, and Storm operations. No charges were pressed
after an investigation established that he had not participated in
war crimes allegedly committed in those operations.
