LONDON, Nov 12 (Hina) - It will be difficult for Croatia to reach its pre-war level of five million overnight stays by British tourists, however, the situation in the past three years has been improving step by step. This is an

The problem with Croatian tourism is the inadequate number of beds
which is 23 percent lower than in the pre-war year of 1990, but
compared to 2001 the number of beds this year increased by 11
percent, said the minister. In 2003 that number should increase
even more because new complexes are currently under construction
and there will be more hotels with three, four and five stars once
recategorisation is completed in spring 2003, she added.
Zupan Ruskovic announced better transport connections with Great
Britain. Next year Croatia Airlines will introduce new lines
between London-Dubrovnik and will increase the number of seats on
other flights to Great Britain by 45 percent. She mentioned that
several British tour-operators would introduce additional charter
flights from Britain to the Croatian coast.
Asked about foreigners being able to purchase real estate to
construct houses in Croatia, the minister said this would need to be
limited because Croatia did not wish to be over-constructed and
wished to preserve autochtonal spaces. Limits will also need to be
introduced on the number of yachts that are increasingly visiting
the Croatian sea because this is the only way to preserve its
cleanliness, she added.
