I disagree with the decision that the Pakistani singers (the Kawali
Brothers) should not be on a tour on Croatia and therefore I think
there should be more responsibility in the job of issuing work
permits, Racan said responding to a question which Miroslav Rozic
of the Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) posed during the parliament's
question time.
Rozic wondered about criteria under which Goran Bregovic and his
orchestra were allowed to perform concerts in Zagreb, while the
Pakistani band was not allowed.
Rozic said that during the Serb occupation of the Croatian town of
Borovo Selo, Bregovic had chaired the jury in a beauty contest of
the so-called Krajina (the entity set up by Croatian Serb rebels).
The HSP MP, therefore, posed the question who assessed security
risks when they gave the green light for Bregovic's concert while
they did not allow the performance of the Pakistani brothers
because of the alleged risk of terrorism.
Deputy Culture Minister Biserka Cvjeticanin said her ministry had
not considered nor had it given its opinion for allowing Bregovic's
performance, and added that the ministries of foreign and interior
affairs were responsible for issuing visas.
Deputy Interior Minister Josip Vresk confirmed that the interior
ministry allowed Bregovic's concert after it had received
assessments from security services.
Premier Racan promised to forward a written answer to Rozic.
