The first meeting, organised with the mediation of the U.S.
Ambassador to Sarajevo, Clifford Bond, took place in Banja Luka,
the Serb entity, on Tuesday. The next meeting has been announced in
ten days' time.
The Banja Luka meeting pooled the presidents of the Social
Democrats (SDP), the Party for Bosnia-Herzegovina (SBiH), the
Party of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), the Party of
Democratic Progress (PDP), the New Croatian Initiative (NHI), the
Socialist Party of the Republic of Srpska (SP RS) and the People's
Party 'With Work to Progress'.
SNSD President Milorad Dodik was quoted by local media as saying
that they had concluded that it would be possible to set up new
authorities at the state level without the participation of
national parties.
Dodik, however, believes that such an organisation of the
authorities was also necessary on the level of the two entities.
The Banja Luka meeting was the first since the October 5 general
elections to include parties which were the backbone of the ruling
Alliance for Changes before the poll.
