In an interview with the daily "Dnevni Avaz" of Friday, the US
diplomat voiced his personal disappointment with the results of the
October 5 general election in Bosnia as a majority of voters decided
to vote for the past, according to him.
Bond said the coalition led by Social Democrats (SDP) and the Party
for Bosnia-Herzegovina (SBiH) had done much in the past two years
and solved many big problems. Bond described that coalition as the
best government which Bosnia had had since the conclusion of the
Dayton Peace Accords.
He confirmed that since the election he had contacted
representatives of parties labelled as moderate, and stressed that
he was not going to talk with nationalist parties.
Bond said he would meet people when necessary, but he was not going
to hold meetings with representatives of the Serb Democratic Party
(SDS) or the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ).
The American diplomat said Washington's position remained
unchanged: the Unites States would further be engaged in Bosnia,
but if nationalists came to power this would affect the quality of
the Sarajevo-Washington cooperation.
