In a statement to the Beta new agency, Rexhepi said he saw the
currently divided city united in the future.
One should look for a solution to the problem in cooperation with
the head of the UN Mission in Kosovo, Michael Steiner, and other
leaders, Rexhepi said, adding that the starting point in the
process should be the need for coexistence and re-integration of
the Serb community.
"Our goal is not to isolate the Serbs, but to re-integrate them. We
will certainly not be able to solve the problem without them," he
said.
Rexhepi said he was a moderate optimist regarding the future of
Kosovska Mitrovica.
Commenting on the situation in the town following a recent
municipal election in the province, Rexhepi said the Serbs "have
fallen prey to some leaders' calls for the boycott of the elections"
and that "parallel structures can no longer function".
He added that Kosovo officials would insist on the return of all
citizens to their flats, including Serbs who lost their flats and
houses in other parts of Kosovo.
