ZAGREB, Oct 26 (Hina) - The main committee of the Croatian People's
Party (HNS) unanimously decided on Saturday not to remain in
coalition with the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Zagreb's city
authorities if a HNS member, Miljenko Mesic, the head of the City
Bureau for Urban Planning and Environment Protection, is
dismissed. #L#
At a news conference after the committee session, the party's
president, Vesna Pusic, said that it was Miljenko Mesic who pointed
out illegalities in the General Urban Plan (GUP) of Zagreb.
"The HNS main committee cannon accept that a person who pointed out
the irregularities in the functioning of the city administration
and some clerks and offices becomes a victim of political
dismissals," Pusic said.
She expressed hope that the Zagreb coalition would, however, remain
intact.
Zagreb Mayor Vlasta Pavic (SDP) expressed wish and hope that the
coalition will be sustained, Pusic said, and stressed that the
request that Mesic be dismissed was not even included in the
agenda.
"The city assembly in on Tuesday and by then everything will be
clear," she said.
The GUP was withdrawn from assembly procedure at the end of
September because of differences in the final motion as adopted by
the city leadership and the final motion sent to the City Assembly,
after which the mayor requested that Mesic be dismissed.
Pusic said that Mesic warned about the illegality of adopting the
GUP and effects of changes which open possibilities for legalising
the last story of the Importanne Gallery building which was built
without license.
