The management laid off 1,700 workers on 1 October, given that there
were no conditions for regular manufacturing.
A unionist, Somic, said the management had not still paid salaries
to workers for August and September, although Landeka announced on
22 October that the salaries in arrears would be paid at the
beginning of this week.
At a rally they held on 22 October, the employees set a deadline for
1 November when the management and the owner, Austrian-Russian
company "Trubo Impex", were to pay the salaries.
The workers said that in the case the owner failed to meet their
obligations by the deadline, they would ask the Commercial Court in
Zagreb to immediately terminate the procurement contract with
"Trubo Impex", and announced other actions aimed at the protection
of the rights of 1,700 workers of the Sisak-based Ironworks.
