Several thousand Vukovar residents were in attendance, as well as
Croatian Serb officials.
Speaking of Vojnovic's life, SDSS president Vojislav Stanimirovic
said he had recently been exposed to horrible political and media
pressure after it had been announced that he was a candidate for a
Vukovar County Court judge.
Stanimirovic asked if there were institutions protecting human
rights in Croatia, concluding that nobody would be held accountable
for Vojnovic's death
Vojnovic's candidacy for a county court judge was opposed by
Homeland War associations from Vukovar County as well as county
branches of the Croatian Democratic Union, the Croatian True
Revival party and the Croatian People's Party.
The president of the Croatian Association of Judges, Vladimir
Gredelj, spoke negatively about Vojnovic's candidacy two days
ago.
Vojnovic was criticised for "having openly sided with the
authorities of the so-called SAO Krajina" during the Serb
occupation of eastern Croatia, for which he was sentenced to 12
years in prison by the Osijek County Court in 1993. He was
subsequently amnestied.
