VUKOVAR, Oct 26 (Hina) - Independent Democratic Serb Party vice-

Stanimirovic told reporters on Saturday. #L#
Stanimirovic said that Vojnovic's heart "could not withstand the
lynching and haranguing he was exposed to" after his candidacy for a
Vukovar County Court judge was made public.
"He simply could not withstand the untruths, insinuations and
libels that were generated by the media," Stanimirovic said, adding
that "if it did not want him, the State Judicial Council should have
rejected Vojnovic's candidacy, instead of exposing him to such
torture".
Vojnovic's candidacy for a county court judge was opposed by
Homeland War associations from Vukovar County as well as county
branches of the Croatian Democratic Union, the Croatian True
Revival party and the Croatian People's Party.
The president of the Croatian Association of Judges, Vladimir
Gredelj, spoke negatively about Vojnovic's candidacy two days
ago.
Vojnovic was criticised for "having openly sided with the
authorities of the so-called SAO Krajina" during the Serb
occupation of eastern Croatia, for which he was sentenced to 12
years in prison by the Osijek County Court in 1993. He was
subsequently amnestied.
