Almost one third of the entire number of the respondents have backed
Croatia's entry, which is the largest degree of support which any
country in the region enjoys.
On average, 32 percent of Europeans would like to see Croatia in the
EU. Greece has the highest percent (54%) of those who would like to
see Croatia as another EU member, and 47 percent of Swedes are on the
second place.
The lowest percent of those who will welcome Croatia in the EU is in
France (22%), and even 62 percent of the French people are against
its entry. Furthermore, 59 percent of Luxembourgers also do not
want Croatians in the Union.
On average, 45 percent of EU citizens are against Croatia's
admission.
The rest of the region is less desirable. The ratio of pros to cons
for Yugoslavia's entry is 30% to 47%; the ratio of pros to cons for
Bosnia-Herzegovina's entry is 28% to 48%, with the same ratio for
Macedonia. Albania's position is the poorest with only 26 percent
of EU citizens for its admission and 51 percent against it.
It is interesting that the average support to Croatia is only by
three percent lower than the support to Slovenia, and by one percent
higher than Turkey.
Of other countries, Switzerland enjoys the best support, with 72
percent of EU citizens for its admission. Norway has gained the
support of 71 percent.
On the other hand, 14 percent of EU citizens do not want to see
Switzerland in the EU, and 13 percent are against Norway's
accession. The third-placed is Iceland, and the ratio of pros to
cons for its admission is 57% to 23%.
