The ministry added that a draft budget for next year had also been
completed, in line with a three-year fiscal projection.
The draft budget for 2003, as government officials have said
several times, is based on an estimated economic growth rate of five
percent, a reduction of the government deficit from this year's 4.2
to 2.6 percent and that of the state deficit (local units) from 5.9
to 4.5 percent of Gross Domestic Product, and a lower
indebtedness.
The revision of this year's budget, as announced earlier, should
cover 1.4 billion kuna (EUR189.1 million) spent on higher salaries
in the military, police, education and science, and costs resulting
from collective agreements with unions, for example jubilee
awards.
On the annual level, spending on employees grew by 574 million kuna
(EUR77.6 million), the most of it for salaries in education (130
million kuna - EUR17.6 million), science (121 million kuna -
EUR16.4 million), and the police (90 million - EUR12.2 million).
