Raids conducted in night clubs in Vitez, Kiseljak, Bugojno, and
Brcko last summer established that local police were not merely
regular customers in what were actually brothels, but that they
protected the owners, providing them with information about police
operations aimed at combating prostitution, the spokeswoman for
the UN Mission to Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kirsten Haupt, told
reporters in Sarajevo on Thursday.
All 11 police were suspended and prohibited from performing similar
jobs in Bosnia for life. It is expected charges will be pressed
against all of them.
