international humanitarian rights from Croatia, Hungary and
Slovenia ended in the southern Adriatic town of Cavtat on Wednesday

During the two-day gathering, 35 participants discussed the
legislation and international humanitarian rights, the
implementation of international humanitarian rights standards in
the national legislation and the protection of asylum seekers in
Croatia, Hungary and Slovenia.
The participants amongst else concluded that the Croatian
legislation was on the level of international humanitarian rights'
standards. In regard to protection for asylum seekers, it was
pointed out that co-operation between the three countries
especially since they all signed an agreement that was quite
liberal with regard to movement of goods and people.
The national committee for international humanitarian laws in
Croatia was founded following a decision by the Croatian government
in July 2000. The committees are active in 62 countries throughout
the world and they mostly include representatives of the defence,
interior, foreign, justice, finance, education and culture
ministers as well as professors from law faculties and Red Cross
representatives.
