The major tasks of the newly-established body are to enhance the
trade between the two countries and, particularly, to stimulate
Croatia's export to Austria and Austria's investment in Croatia.
According to the council, another important task will be to include
Austrian companies in road and railway construction, the
construction of gas and water supplies networks, and in
environmental protection projects.
The council, whose first chairman is the HUP head, Zeljko
Ivancevic, also considered the possibilities of improving road and
railways connections between the two countries and of better use of
Croatian seaports' capacities.
The council of the Croatian-Austrian Chamber of Commerce, which
will be based in Graz, consists of Croatian and Austrian business
people.
The joint chamber of commerce is a non-governmental and non-profit
organisation with the aim to encourage cooperation between the two
countries' business people. The chamber, organised by leading
Croatian and Austrian companies last May, now has about 100
members.
