The meeting focused on projects concerning the decentralisation of
the judiciary, education, small and medium-sized businesses, and
culture, which are financially supported by the Institute.
Soros said he was satisfied with the results achieved in the area of
small and medium businesses and higher education.
Both sides agreed there is still room for improvement in the
judiciary and with regard to the decentralisation of the system.
Soros said the institute was willing to support health reforms in
cooperation with the Health Ministry.
Speaking about the current social and political situation, Racan
said he was satisfied with the government's achievements with
regard to macroeconomy, growth and industrial production as well as
with increased foreign currency reserves and decreased budgetary
deficits. He stressed the importance of reforming the state
administration, decreasing unemployment, raising living
standards and ensuring favourable economic conditions, the
statement said.
