JUSTICE MINISTER: YUGOSLAVIA WON'T ACT IN LINE WITH NEW INDICTMENTS

BELGRADE, Oct 13 (Hina) - Yugoslavia will meet its obligations in relation to the Hague-based UN tribunal only in cases of indictments issued before the country adopted a law on cooperation with the tribunal, and has no intention to meet new demands from the ICTY, Yugoslav Justice Minister Savo Markovic was quoted by the paper "Glas Javnosti" as saying. #L# "The Yugoslav law on cooperation with the Hague-based tribunal refers only to the cases in which indictments were issued and went into force until the day of the adoption of the law, and the Yugoslav authorities cannot act in line with possible new indictments from The Hague," Markovic said in his interview. As far as he knows, the name of the Serb radicals' leader, Vojislav Seselj, is not cited among possible new indictments, the paper said. Asked about his opinion on the Croatian government's stand on General Janko Bobetko's extradition, Minister Markovic said that Croatia was "in an awkward position". "They treat this war as liberating and patriotic war. In fact, it was a civil war. They regard their citizens, accused by the Hague- based tribunal, as national heroes, which is a remnant of the national euphoria," Markovic said. The Yugoslav minister believes that Croatia will encounter serious problems, and possibly the international isolation and sanctions.
