If a country fails to fulfil international obligations, there is
always a risk of facing some sort of sanctions or appropriate
measures taken by the international community, Rossin said in an
interview published in Tuesday's issue of the daily "Jutarnji
List". He said he did not see such problems occurring for Croatia at
this moment.
The international community can see that Croatia is trying to
resolve the problem regarding the Bobetko case, Rossin said.
Croatia is a country with whom the international community has good
relations and international officials do not wish to rush with
decisions, the U.S. diplomat said.
The United States expects Croatia to make the best moves, Rossin
said. Now, it is up to the government and it relations towards its
international obligations, and consequences would depend on that,
Rossin said.
He reiterated the U.S. administration standpoint of last week that
the Croatian government, just as any other government, was bid to
cooperate with the Hague-based tribunal.
Rossin said in the interview that the visit of U.S. legal experts,
who were supposed to train Croatian judiciary officials to process
war criminals, was postponed. The visit was scheduled for
September.
