ZAGREB, Oct 11 (Hina) - Regulations on priority in the provision of
accomodation in areas of special state concern became effective on
Friday, with the state intending to give precedence to about 5,000
families who are currently occupying other people's property. #L#
Applications can be submitted immediately, while the provision of
accomodation will begin at the end of 2003.
"The state's priority in areas of special state concern is to
provide accomodation for about 5,000 families currrently occupying
other people's private property," Assistant Public Works,
Reconstruction and Construction Minister Lovre Pejkovic said
today.
Former tenancy rights holders, mostly refugees of Serb
nationality, will not automatically become the owners of the
apartments they used to occupy, because the government believes
those flats were not privately owned.
These people, as well as settlers and persons accommodated in
collective centres, will be able to apply for state-owned
apartments, houses or state-owned land and construction material,
Pejkovic said.
The Ministry for Public Works, Construction and Reconstruction
adopted the regulations on September 25 in line with the Law on
Amendments to the Law on Areas of Special State Concern.
