Speaking on a local TV station, Rupel stated that the issue of old
branches of the Ljubljana Bank in Zagreb in Croatia, Bosnia and
Macedonia was a bilateral issue.
"A solution is to be reached within the framework of negotiations
with the assistance of the Bank for International Settlements in
Basel and I am writing a letter to propose that another round of
negotiations in this regard be convened," Rupel said. He added that
he did not see any connection between this and Slovenia's accession
to the EU.
As far as the cross-border agreement with Croatia is concerned, it
is valid even after Slovenia accesses the EU in the same way that the
such as agreement exists between Slovenia and Italy which Italy and
the former Yugoslavia had signed in Udine and is still applied
regardless of the fact that Italy is in the EU, Slovenia's head of
diplomacy explained.
With regard to bilateral agreements on the Krsko nuclear power
plant that are mentioned in the European Commission report about
Slovenia's progress in integration processes, Rupel said that
there was no disagreement in this regard but that the matter was
blocked in the Slovenian Constitutional Court. "I hope that this
will be resolved soon," Rupel said.
