Prodi, has said that a possible failure of the second round of the
presidential election in Serbia would be treated by the European

country. #L#
Prodi was quoted by the Belgrade-based "Danas" daily as saying that
in such case Serbia would lose the tempo it needed much. He added
that the country had great potentials which it should use at the
right time for the joint venture in Europe.
He assessed that what had so far been done in Serbia showed the
correct direction, although it was still below his expectations due
to insufficient cooperation between countries in the region.
Prodi said he gave his support to EU High Representative for Foreign
Affairs and Security, Javier Solana, and to what Solana had to date
done helping Serbia and Montenegro to change the constitution of
the Yugoslav Federation. In this context Prodi said the EU was on
hand to help in the honouring of the democratic rules, but it was up
to Serbia and Montenegro to make the final choice.
