ZAGREB, Sept 27 (Hina) - General Janko Bobetko said Friday night
that a text entitled "General Bobetko Accuses" ran in the "Globus"
weekly on Friday was a fabrication and false imputation with the
intent to create a rift among Croatian Homeland War veterans, and
therefore, completely distanced himself from the text. #L#
The retired staff general said he had spoken with Globus reporter
Gordan Malic about the indictment against him issued by the Hague-
based international war crimes tribunal and its content about
events regarding the Medak Pocket military operation. He said he
also spoke about his colleagues, Croatian generals, pertaining to
various stances in the execution of the operation.
Bobetko stressed that "minimal professional correctness of the
reporter, Mr. Malic, dictated that he should have sent the text for
authorisation. Since Malic did not do so, I view this unauthorised
text as a fabrication and false imputation primarily against
myself, which would not be the first time, and creates rifts among
Croatian veterans and the Croatian national being at a time when
unity is most important".
The general said that such acts not only aggravated his position,
but also the government's and the parliament's, which were exerting
efforts not to help him, but to solve in principle this very complex
issue of interest for Croatia's future.
