ZAGREB, Sept 21 (Hina) - Retired General Janko Bobetko has stated

while all the rest is "a profound lie, offence and untruth". #L#
"The only thing that is correct and corresponded with the truth in
that indictment is the year in which I was born, the place where I
was born and that I was a Croatian Army commanding officer.
Everything else is a profound lie, an offence and untruth," General
Bobetko told the Croatian Television on Saturday night.
Asked to comment on statements that Croatia would be divided in the
so-called Bobetko case, the general said he thought the Croatian
people were at a politically positive and commendable level, and
knew exactly what the aim of the indictment was.
"The indictment's goal is primarily to definitely remove the
Homeland War off the scene," Bobetko said, adding that then
"Croatia ceases being a state and they can do with it whatever they
will, place it in the Balkans or in China, which is a perfidious and
conspiring approach".
Bobetko said he could only support statements by Vice-Premier Goran
Granic that the indictment was not in line with the Croatian
Constitution, as well as the government's announced measures,
stressing that he thought this to be the obligation and duty of
government members if they wished to preserve their personal
dignity, as well as a fair approach to a serious problem.
"Anything else would be a fight for time, dishonesty and hypocricy
which in this situation should not happen"," Bobetko said.
The international war crimes tribunal for the former Yugoslavia on
Friday issued the content of the indictment against General
Bobetko, according to which he is indicted on five counts for crimes
against humanity and violations of the law and customs of war during
a 1993 Croatian military operation in Medak Pocket, under
individual and superior responsibility.
