ZAGREB, Sept 20 (Hina) - The Hague-based UN war crimes tribunal on
Friday again declined to comment on the "Bobetko case", although
the Croatian government in the meantime announced that it had
received an indictment from this tribunal against the 83-year-old
general Janko Bobetko. #L#
The indictment was forwarded to the government's office for
cooperation with the tribunal on Thursday evening, and a warrant
for Bobetko's arrest was enclosed with it, said Bobetko's lawyer
Goran Mikulicic.
ICTY prosecutors, who have come in Zagreb to interview Bobetko,
will not meet him, Mikulicic said after he visited his client on
Friday.
The prosecutors can interview a suspect either before the issuance
of the indictment or an indictee only after he/she enters a plea of
guilty or not guilty at the first appearance before the tribunal.
Therefore, Mikulicic says, the prosecutors' request for talks with
Gen. Bobetko in his capacity as indictee was a mistake made by the
ICTY prosecution.
