High export subsidies are being applied to sugar exports from the
European Union, which represent a significant budget expense for
the EU. As such, the EC has been considering the possibility of
abolishing export subsidies for sugar exports to Croatia, of which
the EC representatives informed the Croatian side.
The Zagreb meeting was estimated as very successful by both sides,
the statement read. It added that the EC representatives expressed
their satisfaction with Croatia's readiness to offer the necessary
assistance and co-operation regarding future sugar exports from
the EU to Croatia, as well as Croatian exports of sugar to the EU.
A draft agreement was discussed at the meeting, while details will
be worked out during the coming period.
