The local election in Tivat is in fact being repeated because
following the May polls, the local authorities have not managed to
convene a government.
The listing that was accepted by the municipal electoral committee
for the local election in Tivat, scheduled for October 20, contains
the names of 32 candidates for councillors for the new city assembly
in Tivat. The head of the list is Marija Vucinovic, a shipbuilding
engineer.
Vucinovic stated that it was time that ethnic Croats in Tivat
demanded some of their rights.
The leadership of the HGI in Tivat emphasised that this organised
group of citizens and outstanding intellectuals came about as a
result of the disappointment in the parties currently in government
in that town for whom they voted but who were not taking any concern
for the needs of Croat nationals.
This time, Croats in Montenegro and particularly in Boka Kotorska
Bay will finally be able to vote for themselves, their children and
their future seeing that Croats account for 30 per cent of the
population in Tivat, a candidate for the council, Dr. Dalibor Buric
said.
The HGI was welcomed by Montenegrin president Milo Djukanovic
during his visit to Kotor on Wednesday.
He stressed that this new political group with a Croatian national
forename will make a contribution to the development of democracy
and multiethnic relations in Montenegro.
