ZAGREB, Sept 10 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on Tuesday received the German and Swiss ambassadors to Croatia, Gebhardt Weiss and Paul Widmar, who acquainted him with an initiative for more extensive learning of the German
language in Croatia.

initiative for more extensive learning of the German language in

The meeting also focused on the need for increasing the number of
scholarships for German language studies, which would be support to
students and teachers.
Mesic supported the initiative and stressed the importance and
necessity of a more intensive learning of foreign languages in
general, which, considering the large Croatian disapora, would be a
bridge between Croatia and the world.
The meeting was also attended by the head of the Goethe Institute,
Michael Schroen, the president of the German language teacher's
society, Ljerka Tomljenovic Biskupic, the director of the Austrian
Cultural Forum in Zagreb, Robert Szuczich, and Mesic's advisors for
foreign affairs, Tomislav Jakic and science and education, Esad
Prohic.
